A few years ago, I had an idea to write, to create a coloring book for my daughter. I had random story concepts saved on my laptop, and big dreams of seeing my name on a real book.

What I didn’t have was a plan.

I didn’t know how publishing worked. I didn’t know how to market anything. I didn’t know if anyone would even care about what I wrote or created. All I knew was this: I didn’t want my ideas to die on my laptop..

So I started anyway.

When “Someday” Finally Became “Now”

For a long time, I told myself I’d write “someday.” Someday when I had more time. Someday when I learned more. Someday when I felt ready. The truth? I was scared. Scared my writing wasn’t good enough. Scared people would judge it. Scared I’d fail. But one day, I realized something simple: If I kept waiting, nothing would ever happen.

So I picked one idea and committed to finishing it—no matter how imperfect it was.

That decision changed everything.

My First Attempts (And My First Mistakes)

When I started publishing, I thought it would be easy.

Write a book.
Upload it.
Watch sales roll in.

That’s not how it works. Not even close.

My early projects taught me some hard lessons:

• Good writing alone isn’t enough
• Marketing matters
• Covers matter
• Descriptions matter
• Consistency matters

I made books that barely sold. I ran promotions that didn’t work. I spent time on things that didn’t move the needle. It was frustrating. There were moments I thought about quitting. But instead, I treated every mistake as tuition.

I was learning the business.

Learning to Build, Not Just Create

Over time, my mindset shifted.

I stopped thinking like “just a writer” and started thinking like a builder.

I learned how to:

• Package ideas
• Create series
• Test pricing
• Promote smarter
• Build an audience. Thanks to TIKTOK
• Improve with every release

Each project got better. Not perfect but better. And better compounds.

One book led to another.
One reader led to more.
One lesson led to growth.

Slowly, ideas started turning into real products, into books people actually bought.
